Shirley Jean London, 84, of Columbus, died at 2:37 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Care Facility. She was born in Columbus, December 19, 1926, the daughter of Charles Elmer and Callie Elizabeth Bunton Whitehead. She married Charles N. London August 27, 1949. He preceded her in death on December 15, 1992. Shirley was a member of the Faith Temple of Columbus. When she was eight years old in 1935, her brother Bud found a dollar and took Shirley on a ride in a Ford Trimotor airplane. This was one of her fondest memories and spawned a lifelong passion for travel. Shirley traveled to all 50 states, across Europe and went for a submarine ride while on a cruise to Panama. She and her husband started the Columbus Nutrition Shop, which is still around today. Despite being told by her doctors two years ago she had cancer, she continually lived a full life with dignity and faith. Shirley would spend hours reading her Bible and writing her thoughts. She left multiple notebooks for her family to cherish. She will be missed for many reasons, including her butterscotch pies. She is survived by children, Linda London of Columbus, David (Jonita) London of Columbus, Judy Immormino of Columbus, Leann London Hurt of Columbus, Greg London of Lawrenceburg and Tony (Amy) London of Columbus; grandchildren, Rob, Jami, Phillip, Brandon, Larraine, D.J., Bryce, Charlie, Kate and Amanda; great-grandchildren Justy & Carter; sister Joan Barger of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Robert Whitehead and Floyd "Bud" Whitehead; and sisters, Delores Whitehead, Mary Cox and Ruth Miller. Funeral Information SERVICE: Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Garland Brook Cemetery. VISITATION: 4-8 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2011 at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
