Mary Rebecca Birge, 76, of Road 525E, died at 5:42 a.m. Monday, May 30, 2011, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Mary was a retired Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation custodian and a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting and spending time with her grandchildren. Born in Columbia, Ky., Oct. 19, 1934, Mrs. Birge was the daughter of James Thomas and Susie Holtclaw Neat. She married Carl T. Birge June 22, 1987. He survives. Also surviving are sons, Jerry Burton of Columbus, Marshall Burton of Columbus and Rick (Amy) Burton of Seymour; daughters, Etta Sue Sallee of Burney, Kathy Boone of Seymour and Sandra Whitis of Seymour; a brother, Earl Neat of Columbia, KY; a sister, Dorothy (John) Blackburn of Columbus; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, C.T. Burton, who passed December 13, 1985; and 10 brothers and sisters. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Thursday, June 2, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Poynter officiating. CALLING: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday. BURIAL: Garland Brook Cemetery. Donations Information Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
