Robert L. Holmes, 78, of California Street, died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at his home. He was born in Bedford, June 13, 1932, the son of Roscoe Lewis and Ina Lois Pittman Holmes. He married Caroline S. Gehring December 18, 1954. She preceded him in death May 4, 2010. Robert retired from Cummins Engine Company after 22 years of service. He enjoyed golf, traveling, sports, NASCAR and cookouts. He is survived by sons, Reese Holmes and Rick (Kimberly) Holmes, both of Columbus; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Lealos of Springville. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a sister, Helen Peed. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Wes Jones officiating. Inurnment will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Calling will be from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
