Avis Lee Barker March 29, 1941 - March 07, 2011 Avis Lee Barker, 69, of Road 850N, died at 6:57 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2011, at her home. Avis was an avid NASCAR and Tony Stewart fan and also enjoyed Colts Football. She worked in the medical field for many years, until retiring in 2002 from Columbus GYN and Columbus Internal Medicine. She enjoyed her retirement with weekly outings with her family and friends. Avis belonged to both the Friends of the 50s Red Hat Club and played 40-plus years in a bridge club, both with a host of many wonderful friends. She also was a member of New Salem Church of God. Avis was known for her smile, outgoing personality and zest for living. Her family and friends were her true passion and the most important part of her life. Fighting cancer was the marathon of her years. Born in Crawford County March 29, 1941, Mrs. Barker was the daughter of Sollie and Vivian B. Coleman Sherron. She is survived by a son, Scott Barker of Columbus; daughters, Marcie (Lynn) Ritchey of Westport and Elisha Staggs of Columbus; grandchildren, Kyle Ritchey and Cole, Mackenzie and Connor Staggs; a brother, Jack (ReeAnn) Sherron of Salem; and sisters, Glenda (Frank) Nobles of Salem and Phyllis (Jim) Hale of Scottsburg. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Friday, March 11, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Bernard Jackson officiating. CALLING: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday. BURIAL: Westport Cemetery. Donations Information Memorial contributions may be made to the Simon Cancer Center.
