Gene J. Stout January 07, 1919 - December 04, 2010 Gene J. Stout, 91, of Elizabethtown, died at 10:25 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Silver Oaks Health Campus. He was born in Jackson County Jan. 7, 1919, the son of Joseph M. Stout and Dora Arbuckle Stout. He married Betty J. Ackeret on June 23, 1945. She survives. Gene was raised on a farm near Tampico. He graduated from Tampico High School in 1936. He was employed by Seymour Woolen Mills before going to work at Cummins Engine Company in 1951, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Seymour American Legion Post #89, the Diesel Workers Union and Indiana Farm Bureau. Gene loved the Lord, his family and his farm. He was an active worker for Christ, having taught Sunday School and was Sunday School Superintendant for many years. Gene enjoyed traveling throughout the western United States. While finishing their home, Gene and his family did all the work themselves. They built the fireplace and the exterior rock work on their home with stones from Rock Creek, which runs through their farm. He was a member of Elizabethtown Christian Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. Gene is survived by daughters, Karen L. Stout of Elizabethtown and Phyllis J. (Bob) Crase of Columbus; grandchildren, Karen (Tommy) Wetherald and Kristina (Bill) Bergman; great-grandchildren, Tasha (Jimmy) Riecker, Tessa Wetherald, Ashlyn Bergman and Crase Bergman. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was the last survivor of nine children; brothers, Winnie, Paul, Erman, Lawrence and infant Herman Stout; and sisters, Eva King, Addie Deal and Evelyn Morgan. Funeral Information FUNERAL: Will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Doran Chambers officiating. VISITATION: Will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. BURIAL: Will be at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour. A Military Graveside Service and Dove release are planned. Donations Information Memorial contributions may be made to Elizabethtown Christian Church, Hospice of South Central Indiana or to Elizabethtown Volunteer Fire Department.
