Lawrence McKinney June 15, 2010 Lawrence E. McKinney, 96, of Taylor Road, died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Four Seasons Health Care Center. Mr. McKinney graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis, graduated in 1938 from Indiana State University with a B.S. in Education, and in 1948 from Indiana University with an M.S. in Education. He also earned an endorsement in the Canadian Studies Program at Franklin College in 1987. A former South Bend Schools administrator, after retirement he became a field supervisor for the teacher education program at Franklin College. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church at Whitecreek, Retired Teachers Association, Exchange Club, the YMCA and Phi Delta Kappa. He was a Brannigan Scholar recipient. Born in Jonesville Aug. 28, 1913, Mr. McKinney was the son of James Franklin and Hazel Lind McKinney. His first wife, Helen Byers McKinney, preceded him in death in 1985. He later married Elizabeth Eckelman Lustig. She survives. Also surviving are sons, Edward L. (Judy) McKinney of Redmond, OR, Larry J. (Carole) McKinney of Edinburgh and Michael E. (Roberta) McKinney of Homer, AK; a stepson, Dr. William Lustig of Columbus; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, George L. (Norma) McKinney of Columbus; a sister, Dorothy Jean Patrick of Columbus; and a sister-in-law, Anna McKinney. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann McKinney, and a brother, James F. McKinney II. The family would like to express their thanks to all of the special caretakers at Four Seasons Retirement Center. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Saturday at Four Seasons Chapel with Pastor Joshua Cook officiating. CALLING: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and at Four Seasons Chapel from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday. BURIAL: Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
