David Edward Rawlins November 20, 1953 - January 23, 2010 David E. Rawlins, 56, of Union Street, died at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2010, at Columbus Regional Hospital. He graduated in 1972 from Columbus High School and attended Indiana University, where he earned an associates degree in business. Mr. Rawlins worked as a security guard in Columbus and later was a newspaper carrier for the Indianapolis Star and The Republic. In 2008, he received the Good Samaritan Award from the American Red Cross for his action in helping one of his route customers who had fallen and was seriously injured. Throughout his life, David enjoyed gardening, bird watching, camping and other outdoor sports. He was an avid IU basketball and Indianapolis Colts fan. He will be remembered by family and friends for his kind heart and gentleness in the midst of so many illnesses. Born Nov. 20, 1953, Mr. Rawlins was the son of Charles and Betty Rawlins of Columbus. Survivors include his sisters, Jo Ellen (Alan) Watanabe and Jean (Mark) Thayer; a brother, John (Sabrina) Rawlins; and one nephew and four nieces, also of Columbus. His parents preceded him in death. Memorial contributions may be made to Mental Health America of Indiana or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Funeral Information CALLING: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
