Florence E. Casey August 06, 1911 - January 16, 2010 Florence E. Casey, 98, of Columbus, passed away at her home on Saturday, January 16, 2010. She was born in Boone, Iowa, August 6, 1911, the daughter of Albert and Laura Bennett Tilson. Survivors include her husband of 76 years, J. Mark Casey; her son, Paul M. (Cindy) of Columbus; a grandson, Brian (Heaven Leigh) of Lexington, Kentucky; a granddaughter Laura (Rick) Cox of Brown County; and nieces, Diane Shaeffer of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, Joan Christian of Gresham, Oregon and Laura Martin of Newton, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Julian, and several other siblings. Continuing her studies into her mid-50s, Mrs. Casey earned a bachelors degree and a masters degree from Indiana University in education and library science. She taught in various schools in Scott, Jennings and Decatur counties, retiring as librarian at Jennings County High School. While residing in North Vernon, she was active with Jennings County Extension Homemakers and the Literary Club and for 25 years was a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of North Vernon. She also was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Colonial Dames of North America. Following retirement she and her husband moved to Columbus where she continued teaching Sunday school for a number of years as a member of First United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader, enjoyed classical music and the arts and treasured times with grandchildren, always asking them: What beautiful things have you seen today? Funeral Information FUNERAL: 1 p.m. Thursday, January 21, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Reverend Kenneth Jewell officiating. VISITATION: Noon until time of service Thursday. BURIAL: Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown, Indiana. Donations Information Friends wishing to make memorial contributions may donate to a church-related charitable organization of their choice.
