Mary Jane Owens December 07, 1931 - November 01, 2009 Mary Jane Owens, 77, of Ohio Street, died at 11:56 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Mary Jane enjoyed working at Grace Lutheran Church where she was a 50- year member and director of missions. She also was a Sunday school teacher and was instrumental in starting the churchs ESL program. Mary Jane was also a school secretary with Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation for 10 years and a bookkeeper with Columbus Parks and Recreation Department. She loved cooking, gardening, and most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Born in Columbus Dec. 7, 1931, Mrs. Owens was the daughter of Harvard and Pauline Suverkrup Bruning. She married Carroll Owens May 20, 1956. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Mark E. Owens of Columbus; a daughter, Kathy M. Doug Shafer of Columbus; and grandchildren, Felicity Eubanks, Anthea McGrew, Angela Owens and Jonathan Owens. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister, Dorothean Barnes. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor John Armstrong officiating.
