James E. Able November 23, 1941 - October 31, 2009 James E. Able, 78, of Joseph Cox Court, Columbus, Ind., died at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2009, at his home. James was an Air Force veteran and was a retired tree surgeon. He loved to fish and enjoyed gospel music and doing word search puzzles. He was a member of Seventh Street Church of God. Mr. Able was born November 23, 1941, at Hope, Ind., the son of James Edward and Delores F. Roberts Able. He married Phyllis J. Elmore on June 25, 1995. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Delmara McCommes of Jacksonville, Fla.; stepsons, Randy Meece of Columbus, Ind., Jeffrey Meece and Kevin Meece, both of Franklin, Ind.; stepdaughters, Shirley Joe Emerine of Pioche, Nev., Rose Marie Graves of Las Vegas, Nev., Cheryl Wethington and Gayle Thomason, both of Bargersville, Ind., Faye Worton of Elizabethtown, Ind., Tammy Hampton of Franklin, Ind., and Beverly Meece of Whiteland, Ind.; a sister, Elneeta McyItire of Greensburg, Ind.; 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rita Ann Able; a brother, Steven Able; and a sister, Eileen Mings. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Ballard and the Rev. Bobby Neal officiating. VISITATION: 10:00 a.m. until service time Tuesday. BURIAL: Garland Brook Cemetery with military rites by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
