Florence H. Barkes February 21, 1934 - July 25, 2009 Florence H. Barkes, 75, of Road 200N, Hope, Ind., died at 9:58 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Florence was a homemaker while her children were growing up. After her children were grown, she worked as a receptionist in a doctors office. She then worked with her first husband in their construction business. After his death, she went to work at Children Inc. until she retired. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church at White Creek. Florence enjoyed sewing, quilting, listening to music, reading and gardening. She also enjoyed playing the violin, as well as attending the Columbus Philharmonic. Mrs. Barkes was born February 21, 1934 in Bartholomew County, Ind., the daughter of Franklin and Eugenia Galbraith Huntsman. She married Max Harden on June 27, 1952, he passed away Jan. 17, 1990. She then married Dennis L. Barkes on May 23, 1993. Survivors include her husband; a stepson, Glenn Barkes of Columbus, Ind.; daughters, Maxie F. Harden (Chester) Skidd of Salem, Ind., Genie Moss of Hope, Ind. and Melissa Harden of Elizabethtown, Ind.; stepdaughters, Linda (Doug) Scheidt of Columbus, Ind., Diane (Thom) Hanson of Southport, Ind. and Amy (Scott) Hepburn of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Glenn Huntsman of Columbus, Ind.; a sister, Mary Harris of Taylorsville, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one step great-grandchild. Mrs. Barkes was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; and brothers, Walter, Oscar, James, Floyd and Gene Huntsman. Funeral Information FUNERAL: Will be conducted Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Joshua H. Cook officiating. CALLING: Will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services. BURIAL: Will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
