Billy Lee Barnes January 23, 1933 - February 07, 2009 Billy Lee Barnes, 76, of Offshore Drive, Columbus, Ind., died Saturday, February 7, 2009, at 11:29 a.m. at his home. Bill was a devoted husband of 52 years, wonderful father, and a very involved grandfather. He touched so many lives in the 34 years he was a teacher and a coach. He taught and coached at Shields Jr. High in Seymour, Central Jr. High School, Southside Jr. High, and retired from Columbus East High School. He was a member of Fairlawn Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder and a Deacon. Bill was an Air Force veteran, serving from 1952 to 1956. Bill was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing golf. He was an Oklahoma Sooners football fan and loved to go to his grandchildrens sporting events. Bill always had a great sense of humor and he always had a positive outlook on life. He never met a stranger and would help anyone at any time. Mr. Barnes was born January 23, 1933 in Cushing, Oklahoma, the son of Archie and Sue A. Owens Barnes. He married B. Darlene Weddle June 10, 1956. Survivors include his wife, B. Darlene Weddle Barnes; sons, Bradford L. (Pamela) Barnes of Columbus, Ind. and Brian A. Barnes of Columbus, Ind.; a brother, Kirk Barnes of Virginia; a brother-in-law, John R. (Mary Beth) Weddle of Columbus, Ga.; and grandchildren, Jeremy, Zachary and Haley Barnes. Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Information MEMORIAL SERVICE: Will be conducted Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Fairlawn Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Stephen D. Geckeler officiating. CALLING: Will be today from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
