Martin, 70, of 25th Street in Columbus, Indiana, passed away Friday, October 31, 2008, at 11:03 p.m. at his daughter Jamies home where he resided and was cared for the past five years. James was an Air Force Veteran and retired from Cummins Engine Company after 32 years of service. James loved to work in his garden and share it with others, He was loved by many and Papaw to many. Mr. Martin was born February 19, 1938 in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Gurnsey and Belva Cook Martin. Survivors include a son, Brian A. (Patty) Martin of Columbus, Indiana; daughters, Jamie S. Rose, Leah D. Coleman and Neah D. Martin, all of Columbus, Indiana; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Carl Martin of Phoenix, Arizona and Don Martin of Indianapolis, Indiana; and sisters, Joyce Turney of Houston, Texas, Nancy Routier of Edinburgh, Indiana, Mary Anderson of Hope, Indiana, Loretta Martin of Sellersburg, Indiana and Wilma Hardin of Brown County, Indiana. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles Martin and Dale Martin; and sisters, Janice Martin and Lois Mathis. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2008, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Reeves officiating and military rites will be conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard. VISITATION: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
