Beulah I. McCracken October 29, 1924 - October 17, 2008 Beulah I. McCracken, 83, of Sassafras Lane, Columbus, Ind., died Friday, October 17, 2008, at 11:30 p.m. at her home. Beulah graduated from Franklin High School in 1942 where she met her high school sweetheart, Robert McCracken, whom she married in 1944. She was a devoted Air Force wife who established homes across the United States and overseas during her husbands 25-year Air Force career. Beulah was a dedicated wife and mother who organized and participated in Officers Wives Club and military dependent childrens activities. While at Andrews Air Force Base, she developed a passion for competitive bridge, and eventually she and her longtime bridge partner, Eloise Cure, achieved the rank of Silver Life Master. After retirement in 1968, the McCracken family moved to Columbus, where Beulah was a book store manager for the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. She set up the book store at Southside Junior High School in 1970 and managed it for seven years. Her strong faith led her to many activities at Fairlawn Presbyterian Church. She was Chairperson of the Pre-School Committee, served as Elder and Deacon, and participated innumerous other church activities. Mrs. McCracken was born October 29, 1924, in Hendricks County, Indiana, the daughter of Shirley H. and Mary E. Baker David. She married Robert Lee McCracken June 27, 1944. Survivors include her husband, Lt. Col. Robert Lee McCracken; a son, Kevin J. (Laura J.) McCracken of Columbus, Ind.; daughters, Janeen McCracken (W. Scott) Taylor of Bloomington, Ind. and Judy Hanson of Columbus, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Shirley H. David Jr. of Franklin, Ind. Mrs. McCracken was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Lee McCracken; a daughter, Linda R. Colegrove; two grandchildren; and sisters, Marjorie Linehan and Ruth Ford. Funeral Information FUNERAL: Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Fairlawn Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Stephen Geckeler officiating. VISITATION: Tuesday, October 21, 2008, from 12:00 p.m. until time of services. Following the graveside committal service at Garland Brook Cemetery, there will be a reception at the Fairlawn Presbyterian Church.
