Raymond L. Humbel October 10, 2008 Raymond L. Humbel, 83, of West Shady Lane, Columbus, Indiana, died Friday, October 10, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Kindred Hospital South in Greenwood, Indiana. Raymond was in the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific Theater during World War II with his twin brother, Rawland H. Humbel. He was employed by Indiana Gas company for 36 years, retiring November 1, 1986. Raymond had been a member of New Hope Christian Church since 1952 and of the Battleship USS New Mexico Association and Odd Fellows Lodge. Raymond loved having breakfast at the Elks Lodge, traveling, and most of all his family. Mr. Humbel was born October 25, 1924, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Edward L. and Edith Worthen Humbel. He married Idella White December 27, 1945, in Flint, Michigan. Survivors include sons, Barry L. (Cindi) Humbel of Hartsville, Indiana and Kerry A. (Gwen) Humbel of Columbus, Indiana; grandsons, Jason (Susan) Humbel of Arizona, Preston (Gina) Humbel and Tyler Hadley, both of Columbus, Indiana and Jordan McQueen of Hartsville, Indiana; granddaughters, Katie Hadley and Emily Campbell, both of Hartsville, Indiana; five grandchildren; a brother, Chuck (Rita) Humbel of California; a sister, Ruth Forester of Arizona; and a special niece, Beverly (Mark) Eickhoff of Michigan. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Idella, on October 25, 2002; and identical twin brother, Rawland H. Humbel. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, with the Elders of the New Hope Christian Church officiating. VISITATION: 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 13, 2008, and one hour prior to service time on Tuesday. BURIAL: Hartsville College Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
