Betty McDougal Franklin June 16, 1942 - March 04, 2008 Betty McDougal Franklin, 65, of Home Avenue died at 2:05 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Mrs. Franklin lived her early life in Seymour where she graduated with the first class of the new Seymour High School in 1960. She graduated with an RN Degree from Mercy School of Nursing in Hamilton, Ohio, before moving to Columbus, and worked as a registered nurse for 44 years in various facilities. She was a member of Columbus Free Methodist Church, a volunteer at the Girls Club, a former member of the Human Rights Commission and had been secretary of Bartholomew County Chapter of the NAACP as well as volunteering as a Book Buddy at Fodrea Elementary School. She enjoyed attending the art group at Club 55. Born in Seymour June 16, 1942, Mrs. Franklin was the daughter of Leon G. McDougal Sr. and Pauline Harrison McDougal. She was previously married to Steve Franklin Survivors include daughters, Stephanie Mickey Gorham and Susan Franklin, both of Columbus; a granddaughter, Jessica D. Gorham; brothers, Leon G. (Judy K.) McDougal Jr. of Bloomington, Jeffrey G. J.B. (Doris) McDougal of Detroit, Mich., and Paul Bo (Tonya) McDougal of Fishers; a sister, Judith E. West of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Herman E. Pete McDougal. Funeral Information VISITATION: Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the Jewell - Rittman Family Funeral Home. FUNERAL: The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Columbus Free Methodist Church with the Revs. Chet Martin and Lane Lowman officiating.
