Donald L. Spurling January 04, 1930 - February 29, 2008 Donald L. Spurling, 78, of 16th Street, Columbus, Ind., died Friday, February 29, 2008, at 5:45 a.m. at Silver Oaks Health Campus. Donald was previously employed at Cummins Engine Company before taking over the family business Kirgan Bike Shop later known as Columbus Schwinn. Donald was a life member of Columbus Moose Lodge 398 where he received the Pilgrim Degree of Merit. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a former member of Edinburgh American Legion Post 233 and a member of Elizabethtown Masonic Lodge. Don was an avid golfer. Mr. Spurling was born January 4, 1930, the son of J. Otis and Evelyn Coffman Kirgan. He married Rosalind J. Springer August 16, 1952 at San Luis Obispo, California. Survivors include his wife; a son, John Andrew (Marilynn) Spurling of Columbus, Ind.; a daughter, Katherine Ann (Hobie) Henninger of Shelbyville, Ky.; grandchildren, Sara Miles of Bloomington, Ind. and Connor Spurling, Chase Spurling and Taylor Spurling, all of Columbus, Ind.; a great-grandson, Gavin Jewell of Bloomington, Ind.; and a stepsister, Emma Ellen Burdine.
