Leona B. Gates June 28, 1918 - February 04, 2008 Leona B. Gates, 89, of Central Avenue died at 12:05 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Mrs. Gates lived her early life in Edinburgh and Flat Rock but spent most of her adult life in Columbus. She was a volunteer at Columbus Regional Hospital, a tutor at McDowell Adult Education Center and a member of W.T.K. Home Economics Club. She also was a member of First Church of the Nazarene where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the church choir, past president of the Missionary Society, served on the church board, was leader of the Ladies Prayer Group, received the distinguished service award and was a member of Ladies Sewing Circle as well as being involved in several club activities. Mrs. Gates completed her high school education at the age of 79. Born in Clifford June 28, 1918, Mrs. Gates was the daughter of Raleigh H. and Grace B. Gilbert Harvey. She married the Rev. Oran M. Young Dec. 2, 1994. She is survived by nephews and a niece, William Peddie of Indianapolis, Thomas Peddie of Jackson, N.J., Betty Dellinger of Illinois, Steve Harvey and John R. Harvey, both of Florida; 15 grandchildren; and more than 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 7, 2000; her parents; a brother, Raleigh E. Harvey; and a sister, Georgeanna A. Peddie. Funeral Information VISITATION: Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. FUNERAL: The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Bryan Solomon officiating. BURIAL: Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
