Jeffrey Dean Hughes July 03, 1962 - November 13, 2007 Master Sergeant Jeffrey Dean Hughes, 45, of Indianapolis has died in Indianapolis. He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant Sept. 10, 2006, after 25 years of service at Grissom Air Force Base. While in the Air Force, he was deployed in Grenada, Saudi Arabia, Panama, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Guam and Turkey, serving as crew chief on a KC135. For two weeks every year, he would go on a TDY to different countries all over the world. Upon his retirement, there was a ceremony held in his honor and the colonel of his unit gave a wonderful tribute to Jeffreys service. He was very proud to serve his country, never failing to feel honored to serve. A graduate of Purdue University, with a degree in aviation technology, he also was employed in aircraft maintenance by United Airlines, then AAR and Allisons. He loved open-wheel racing and restoring old cars. When he was younger he attended Garden City Church of Christ and was baptized there. Jeffrey was born in Columbus July 3, 1962. Survivors include his father, Maurice D. (Carole) Hughes of Columbus; his mother, Margaret A. (Robert) Voelz of Columbus; sisters, Julia A. (Monte) Dillon of Mooresville and Lisa J. (Scott) Saddler of Columbus; nephews, Jack Dillon and Parker and Preston Saddler; and an uncle, Dr. Dixon L. Hughes of California. Funeral Information VISITATION: Calling will be Sunday November 18, 2007 from 3:00 until 6:00 at the funeral home and on Monday from 10:00 until time of services. FUNERAL: Funeral will be Monday November 19, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Virgil Clotfelter officiating. BURIAL: Garland Brook Cemetery and military graveside rites will be conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard as well as active duty personnel from the Air Force. I lost my brother Troy just 7 months earlier….I don’t think I like 2007 much…RIP and I’m sorry we lost you at such a young age….I understand and wish I’d have been there for you.
