Lawrence E. Gunckle Jr. May 19, 1930 - October 28, 2007 Lawrence E. Gunckle Jr., 77, of North Vernon died at 6 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at his home. Mr. Gunckle was a self-employed welder and formerly owned Independent Taxi and Metro Taxi Cab companies in Lafayette. He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II. His hobbies included bird and squirrel watching, flea markets and floppy eared dogs. Born in Lafayette May 19, 1930, Mr. Gunckle was the son of Lawrence E. Gunckle Sr. and Velma Lovejoy. He married Shirley Louise Baumgardt Gunckle. Survivors include sons, Lawrence and Carolyn Gunckle III of North Vernon and Jack and Sue Gunckle and Richard Gunckle, both of Lafayette; daughters, Deb and Dick Smith of Lafayette and Pamela and Doug Gaylord of Champaign, Ill.; grandchildren, Shirley Arnold, Jeanette Webb, Misty, Samantha and Belinda Hunter, Nicole, Jessica, Christopher and Dakota Greer, Ashley Gunckle, Jack Gunckle Jr. and Brandon Gaylord; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in November 1969; his parents; a daughter, Sharon Lee Gunckle; and a sister, Rosemary Landry. Funeral Information Inurnment will be Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.
