Norma Jean Schuette May 27, 1922 - November 25, 2006 Norma Jean Schuette, 84, of Abounding Drive passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2006, at her home. Mrs. Schuette was born May 27, 1922, the daughter of Carl and Ida Meyer Vorwald. She was the last remaining descendent with the Vorwald name in Columbus, a pioneer family in Bartholomew County. Her grandparents started the Vorwald Grocery in 1872 which was located at the northeast corner of 3rd and Jackson Streets, and was torn down to make room for the Commons Mall. She was a graduate of St. Peters Lutheran School and a graduate of Columbus High School in 1940. She married Louis Schuette on December 27, 1942. In April of 1946, she and her husband started a self-service laundry in Columbus, which was the first self-service laundry east of the Mississippi River. She worked as secretary of St. Peters Lutheran Church for over 22 years. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed working with her flowers as well as cooking, swimming, boating, and all water activities at their home on Lutheran Lake. Norma Jean was a lifelong member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and St. Peters Couples Club. Norma Jean is survived by her husband; a daughter, Carolyn Schuette of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; a son, Donald (Marcia) Schuette of Green Pond, South Carolina; a son, Roger (Julie) Schuette of Columbus; a daughter Dianne Shepherd of Columbus; grandchildren, Shannon Schuette, Tim Schuette, Tony Schuette, Rodney Schuette, Damian Shepherd, Chad Schuette, Joshua Shepherd and Scott Schuette. Norma Jean is also survived by eight great-grandchildren. Norma Jean was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and Paul Vorwald; and a great-granddaughter Anna Mae Schuette. Funeral Information VISITATION: Monday, November 27, 2006 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. FUNERAL: Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peters Lutheran Church with calling one hour prior to service time. BURIAL: Garland Brook Cemetery. Donations Information MEMORIALS: The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Peters Lutheran Church Together We Grow fund or Camp Lakeview Foundation.
