Fern Helen Nolting November 03, 1917 - October 18, 2006 Fern Helen Engelhardt Nolting Fern Helen Engelhardt Nolting was born November 3, 1917, near the small town of Bancroft, Neb. She was the second oldest of eight children in the family of William and Anna Engelhardt, and the last surviving family member. She graduated from Bancroft High School and attended Wayne State Teachers College. On. February 4, 1945, she was married to Robert Arthur Nolting at St. Paul Lutheran Church near Columbus. To this 60-year union, two sons, Dennis Robert Nolting and Lance Warren Nolting were born. Robert preceded her in death in 2005. Fern and Robert lived on a farm near Columbus for 20 years. They then moved to Arkansas where they raised cattle and operated a hardware store. They operated various businesses over the years, including restaurants and service stations in Missouri, Arizona and Kentucky. Fern positively affected the lives of many young persons, teaching in one-room schools in Nebraska and also at schools in Missouri, Arkansas, Arizona, Kentucky and Indiana. They moved from Ohio back to Indiana for good in 1992. Fern enjoyed writing poetry, some of which has been published nationally in magazines and papers. She also enjoyed reading, sewing and caring for her grandchildren. One of her poems, My Yesterdays, revealing her lifes philosophy, reads, I summoned all my yesterdays Reviewed them bright and clear, The happiness of past good times That my heart has held so dear. The bad times seemed so far away, Though I tried hard to recall The gloomy times I sometimes knew, The rain thats sure to fall. But looking back at yesterdays, I really cant refrain From saying good dispelled the bad, As the sun disperses rain! Fern is survived by her sons, Dennis (Cheryl) and Lance (Carla). Her grandchildren are Joshua Nolting, Jonathan Nolting, Jerrod Nolting and Rebecca Nolting. Her great-grandchildren are Austin Bond and McKenna Nolting.
