Mary J. Shouse May 24, 1920 - October 15, 2006 Mary J. Shouse of Columbus died at 12:45 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus. Born May 24, 1920, in Winchester, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Le-Roy Amsler and Violet Arens Amsler. She was the widow of the late Harry G. Shouse whom she married Feb. 17, 1940, at Stanton, Ky. Mr. Shouse died October 7, 1992. Mary had been a resident of Columbus since 1960. A homemaker, Mary had attended Shiloh Baptist Church. She graduated from Beauty College in Owensboro, Ky. in 1937. An avid musician, she played guitar, mandolin and bass guitar. As a young girl she performed on stage with several well-known musicians. Her love of music was shared with her son Le-Roy Mickey and daughter Sue, whom she taught to play. She performed regularly with her daughter Sue in the 1960s at Donner Park Shows and participated quite often in music events both her children were involved in. She is survived by a daughter, Sue (Mike) Burton of Columbus; a brother, Billy Browne of Owensboro, Ky.; a sister, Betty Ann Hughes of Tucson, Ariz.; a grandson, Chad Shouse of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Le-Roy Mickey Shouse; LeRoyce Jenny Shouse; and Betty Dee-Dee Amsler. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, with the Rev. Smiley Bennett officiating. VISITATION: 4 to 8 p.p.
