Samuel Curtis Darling August 09, 1923 - September 16, 2006 Samuel Curtis Darling, 83, of Road 275W died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006. Mr. Darling was a local home builder and former employee of Dunlaps. He retired from the construction industry in 1984. He was a veteran of the Navy and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Born in Harrodsburg, Ky., Aug. 9, 1923, Mr. Darling was the son of James Williams and Rosa Ellen Royalty Darling. He married Leona L. Venglar on Feb. 20, 1943, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Survivors include his wife; sons, Wayne (Marsha) Darling of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Denver (Pamela) Darling of Huntington Beach, Calif.; daughters, Barbara Vannoy of Elizabethtown, Sharon (Jerry B.) Simpson of Bloomington and Rose (Steve) Ferry of Columbus; a sister, Adalene Greathouse of Columbus; grandchildren, Jerry D. Simpson of Bloomington, Michael Simpson of Greenwood, David Vannoy of North Vernon, Kale Darling of Tustin, Calif., Darrin Ferry of Columbus, Kelly Taylor of Stanton, Calif., and Heather Jones of North Vernon; and great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Vannoy, Hannah Taylor, Cambria Darling and Rachel Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Thelma Sharp, Anna Weekly and Hester Devine; brothers, James Hollie Darling and William Earl Darling; half sisters, Reva Mayes and Vergie Hart; a half brother, Ben Darland; and a son-in-law, Hurstan Vannoy. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Smiley W. Bennett officiating. VISITATION: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2006 and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday. BURIAL: Garland Brook Cemetery and military graveside rites will be conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
