Samuel Russell Hilderbrand, 65, of Nineveh, passed away December 26, 2019, at his home. Sam was born May 7, 1954 in Columbus, the son of Jesse Clarence and Evelyn Laverne Jewell Hilderbrand. He is survived by his children Samuel R. (Sommer) Hilderbrand Jr. and Laura (William) Gallion both of Columbus; grandchildren Rudi, Lillian, Julia, Evelyn, Connor, Sophia, Carson, McKayla, Carolina, and Parker; great-grandchildren Xavier and Jaxson; his significant other Georgia Burton of Nineveh; a step-daughter Jennifer McAllister of Nineveh; his siblings William Hilderbrand of Franklin, Rebecca (Joe) Shelton, Toni (Dale) Jordan, and Alice Fields all of Columbus, and Karen Cox of Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Archie, Charlie, Jesse Ralph, Johnny Ray, and Clarence Alvie Hilderbrand; as well as sisters Vivian Michael, Emma George, and Judy Bassett. Sam was a U.S. Army Veteran, and enjoyed fishing and sports, playing basketball and softball when he was younger. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday January 3, 2020 at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Teike officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Calling will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2020 and one hour prior to the service date. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

  2. Sam was like a dad to me he took care of me at work when I was in a bad place he was a really good friend wish I had known just found out so I couldn’t say my goodbyes love u Sammy you will be missed

  4. So many memories and fun times we shared. Too bad I can’t share them on a public domain. From softball to bowling to basketball, and professional wrestling, and every thing in between. We also worked side by side for many years. You will be missed my friend. And to the family, I am so sorry that I can’t be there with you, but I am in Brooksville Florida at the time. Just be strong and trust in God. Everything will work out.
