Charles Stephen Hendershot, 77, of Columbus, passed away at 3:22 a.m. Wednesday June 3, 2020 in Columbus Regional Hospital. He was born March 20, 1943 in Johnson County to the late Charles Evans Hendershot and Carrie May (Wolka) Hendershot.
Steve served his country in the United States Navy and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and St. Peters Lutheran Church. He was formerly employed with Cummins Engine Company and retired from Product Engineering Company
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday June 5, 2020 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Jordan McKinley officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Jonesville. Visitation will be from Noon until 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in memory of Steve may be made to American Legion, Post 24 or the St. Jude Children’s Hospital through the funeral home.
He is survived by his sons, Charles (Amber) Hendershot of Medora and Steve (Karen) Hendershot of Columbus; a daughter, Franchesca (Allen) Smith of Columbus; grandchildren, Taylor Smith, Brooke Weddle, Jacob Hendershot, Payton Hendershot, Zoie Hendershot and Malerie Hendershot and a great granddaughter, Paisley Weddle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Evans Hendershot and Carrie May Kinder and his long time companion, Lille Elaine Sorber.

What a great man! I had the pleasure of getting to know him many, many years ago and I have nothing but fond memories. I still have the beautiful walking stick he hand crafted for me. My condolences to the entire family.
