December 25, 1932 ~ June 28, 2020

Alice R. Slane of Columbus passed away on June 28, 2020, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Alice was born December 25, 1932 in Carmunnock, Scotland, the daughter of James and Marion Ovenstone. She emigrated from Scotland in 1963 and married Donald G. Slane on June 6, 1964. Alice was a devoted wife and mother. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a long-time member of the Cosmopolitan Club. She loved helping people and was active in the local community; volunteering for many different organizations over the years. Alice will be remembered by friends and family as a kind, sweet, humble, loving person. She had a beautiful smile and gentle laugh. She always put others before herself and could be counted on to offer love, support and encouragement in good times and bad. Alice took great pleasure in the simple things in life. She loved to travel and, in later years, she and Don loved to go on cruises. She enjoyed reading, gardening, baking, making crafts, and doing puzzles. She is survived by husband, Don; daughters: Alison and Andrea Slane, both of Columbus; and brother, James Ovenstone of Carmunnock, Scotland. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Betty Morrison. Private Inurnment will be held at a later date in the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium. Alice would want to be remembered for all the happy times and memories made with those she loved. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or the donor’s choice of charities. Arrangements provided by Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. 1. Uncle Don, Andrea, and Alison – I am so sorry for your loss. Aunt Alice was such a wonderful person and I’ll remember the sound of her voice (I can hear it now as I type) and her stories, and all the goodies she made. I’m thinking of you all and praying for peace for you.

  2. Don, Alison and Andrea, I am so sorry for your loss! She was a beautiful person inside and out and I’ll miss her and that voice; I’d give anything to hear it.
