June 30, 1940 ~ October 6, 2020

Barbara Jean Wheet Janes, 80, of Edinburgh, Indiana, passed away Tuesday October 6th, 2020 at her home, after a long illness. Determined and resilient in her fight, Barbara left a lasting impression on everyone around her. She was born June 30th, 1940 to James Wheet and Faye Eaton Wheet of Glasgow Kentucky. A country girl at heart with a great sense of humor, Barbara was the perfect example of “Be yourself.” She was a caring person, often sacrificing her own needs for the sake of others. Barbara was a caregiver most of her life. Family was her passion, never hanging up the phone without an “I love you.” She enjoyed hosting big family dinners, cooking for her grandkids and was famous for her delicious Southern cooking, especially her chocolate meringue pies. Barbara also enjoyed working crosswords puzzles and was an avid reader. She could read a 500 - page book in a day. She was quite the writer—a hidden talent of hers. She lived modestly and understood the value of an authentic life. As long as she had her family, she had everything. We can see her now, running barefoot in a field of flowers, with the wind in her hair and the sun on her face. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Friday, October 9th, 2020 at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Eli Johnson officiating. Calling hours will be from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be held at Garland Brook Cemetery.
