I am one of many people who have great memories of Richard, too many to share here, but, he was a special person. Years ago, we joined Stoney Lonesome Motorcycle Club at about the same time and eventually became friends. Over time, we discovered we had another passion in common besides motorcycles- music! We would get together and play
our favorite tunes for each other (he loved the Beatles like I did!!) and ,again, I soon discovered he could really sing. I said “Richard, with your voice, your appearance, and your charisma, you should be a lead singer in a band”. He wasn’t real excited about being out front so the idea of lead singer never got any farther than that, but the deep love of music remained forever. Through the years, we both became life members at Stoney, and would still get together and go riding, many times just the two of us. Years and Covid 19 have prevented quite a bit of that of late, but one of our last times together we relived one of the best stories I know about Richard. Typically, a m.c. race at Stoney would have 120 to 150 riders entered who would all line up side by side on the starting line and start the race all at once. It required a certain amount of fortitude just to get out there, but to get to that first turn first and to lead the race, ahead of everyone else is a thrill very few people ever get to experience. That day it was Richard Garrett.
Godspeed, Richard
