Veda M. Smallwood, age 84, of Columbus, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday December 22, 2020 in Columbus Transitional Care. She was born April 23, 1936 in Garrard, Kentucky. Veda was a member of the Calvary Church of the Nazarene. She had worked as a CNA at Columbus Regional Hospital and as a bus monitor with Bartholomew County School Corporation. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday December 28, 2020 in Garland Brook Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Blair officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest next to her husband A. D. Smallwood. Arrangements were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Veda is survived by her sons, Darrell (Roxanne) Smallwood of Russell Springs, KY, Joe (Lori) Smallwood of Lawton, OK and Rick Smallwood of Columbus; her daughter, Debbie Smallwood-Stanfield of Lawton, OK; her brothers, Arnold and David Gray of Manchester, KY and Larry Elliott of Lexington, KY and her sisters Dottie and Ann of Manchester, KY;11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Veda was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Gray. Due to the state mandate regarding COVID-19, masks and social distancing guidelines must be followed.   7. Although we aren’t family by marriage or blood, we are family be friendship. You’ve been our “Aunt Veda” ever since I can remember. You’ve been in so many of Grandma and Grandpa’s stories, been to all of our family events, and always thinking of us on our birthdays. We will always remember you. Love you Aunt Veda!

  8. Veda was a wonderful person. I loved working with her at ColumbusRegionalHospital. My husband and I also enjoyed spending some Saturday nights with Veda and AD dancing and listening to music. She will be missed greatly. Prayers for the family.

    • I worked with Veda at Columbus Regjonal Hospital many years ago I considered her a friend .,she was a great worker ,sweet person and I enjoyed knowing her prayers to her family I know she will be greatly missed .🙏🙏

  9. May Veda RIP. I’ve known Veda and AD for approximately 50 years. Had a lot of fun times with them. My heart, prayers, and hugs go out to her family. May God watch over them at this time. So sorry for Darrell and his family. Your mom was a beautiful woman.

  10. I worked with Veda for years at Columbus Reginal Hospital, she was a delight to be around… Veda had such a compassion for the patients she took care of, she was always
    willing to do more when needed. We had such good times working together, and I was so honored to have her in my life. My prayers for the family during this difficult time..
