September 28, 1933 ~ June 12, 2021

Mary Louise “Mickey” Staggs, 87, of Carriage Drive, died in her home at 2:55 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021. Mrs. Staggs was born in Upton, Kentucky, on September 28, 1933, the daughter of Fred Lee and Stella Mae Priddy. She married Harold Eugene Staggs on July 5, 1952. The couple had two sons, Dennis, who passed away in 1997, and Tim, who survives. They also had five grandchildren: Dylan, Troy, Kennedy, Grace, and Olivia, as well as five great-grandchildren, all of whom survive, with one more on the way. Mrs. Staggs worked for much of her life at Arvin Industries in Columbus. Since 1972, she was a homemaker, spending her time over the years with children and grandchildren. Neighbors could always find her working in the yard, usually wearing a winter coat and hat even in 90-degree weather. In recent years, she mostly concerned herself with the fact her grandkids apparently could not afford jeans without holes in them. Mrs. Staggs was also survived by her sisters, Inita Smith of Columbus and Judy Preston of Elizabethtown. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; her son, Dennis; and her two brothers, Larry and Freddie Priddy. Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, June 17, 2021, in Jewell ~ Rittman Family Funeral Home with Dinah Staggs officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest next to her husband Harold in Garland Brook Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested for memorial contributions to be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the Alzheimer’s Association. You are invited to view her video tribute, light a virtual candle of remembrance and send a message of condolence to the Staggs family via the funeral home website: www.jewellrittman.com.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Tim Staggs and family, so sorry about your loss of Mickey. She will be sadly missed, Jarold Rush and family and the late Marilyn Staggs. God bless and take care.

    • Thank you, Jarold. I’m embarrassed to say that I only learned Marilyn had passed when I spoke to Carolyn this weekend. I hope you all are healing and taking care of one another.

  2. Tim, I’m sorry but due to my work schedule, I will not be able to make it to the service. My heart will b with u, as Mickey was truly one of a kind❤️

  3. She was the most wonderful Aunt and friend to me . We had many good memories together . I loved her dearly ❤️🙏

  4. For Tim and his precious daughters:

I have mostly expressed my compassion and other feelings on Tim’s or Kennedy’s Facebook pages. All three of Mickey’s granddaughters have been so wonderful during all their growing years. My life is better because all three of you have been a part of it. So I do want to let Grace and Olivia know that you are also in my heart and my mind during this process of letting go and saying good-bye. Your grandmother sure did create a great dad for you! I am glad I got to meet her a few times. And your dad’s and your stories of your grandmother always made me smile.

Even when we know that our beloved family member has lived a long life, and we have done EVERYTHING we possibly could while she was living (all of you but ESPECIALLY YOU, Tim), it is still so sad when they pass. Feelings and thoughts we did not expect come up. There are those moments when we are shocked that we cannot see or talk to them.

And I will miss hearing what sitcoms your mom has been watching with you, Tim. I will miss reading your posts about what her latest “sassy” comment was.

I do not see a way to contribute to a memorial. I will make a donation to either the Alzheimer’s Association or Columbus Hospice.

Loving hugs for all of you and your loved ones today, Susan Burton

P.S. Maybe “virtual gifts” is where I click to give? Or I can just Google and donate in her and your names.
