Lorene Martin, 99 of Columbus, passed away August 16, 2021 at her home at Willow Crossing.
She was born to Alonzo A. George and Bertha L. Palmer in Middletown, Indiana on August 7, 1922. She lived most of her life in Columbus, working at times as a school traffic guard and also assisting others through private nursing. She was also a member of the Light House Full Gospel Tabernacle.
Surviving Lorene are several children, a son, Ronald Callon of Indianapolis, and daughters, Mary Elizabeth Kent of Gulf Port, Mississippi, Joyce Ann Burton, Linda Myrich and Sharon Vire, all of Columbus. She also has 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death is a daughter, Deloris Jean McFarlane and a son, Michael Wayne Martin, two brothers and four sisters.
Arrangements for Mrs. Martin are being handled by the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with services at the Light House Full Gospel Tabernacle of Columbus, (2282 Indiana Avenue.) Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 23 at the church. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in rural Columbus.

Ms. Lorene had the most pleasant disposition and beautiful smile. She had her auto insurance with a company where I worked. When she would stop by she was a breath of fresh air. One day when she came into office she remarked how pretty the roses were that were on my desk..I gave them to her and she said she had never had a dozen roses before… as she left she had the biggest smile ever! She will be missed by all who knew her.
