It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Don W. Godsey on Aug 18, 2021 due to complications related to Stage 4 Cancer. He was born December 17, 1966 in Columbus, the son of Hillary and Oda Godsey. He was a Crane Operator at Kroots Corporation. Don enjoyed Nascar, western movies and spending time with his family. He was a talented musician and bass player. Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m.Tuesday, August 24, at Garland Brook Cemetery with Rev. Chuck Kennedy officiating. Calling will be 4-7 Monday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, for the family. Survivors include former spouse and close friend, Sherri Godsey; sons Brandon (Victoria) Godsey of Columbus and Chris Godsey of Columbus; sister, Ella Jean (Roger) Gillespie of Columbus; brother Eddie Godsey of North Carolina; grandchildren, Adam, Liam, Elowen Godsey and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Don is preceded in death by parents, Hillary and Oda Godsey and a sister, Linda Godsey Patton

  1. I was so sorry to hear of Donald’s illness and passing. We didn’t spend a lot of time together as adults but he was my family and I loved him. I’m so sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you. ❤️

  3. Don was my first crush. Once when Rick and Linda was watching us at our house Don was with them. He loved to play tricks one my older sister and make her mad. Well whatever he did to on a particular day really made her angry because she picked up this really big stick and was chasing him all over the yard. He came into the house and hid in the front closet and he asked me not to say anything about him. I told him only if I got a kiss. He puckered up and I laid one on him lol. My sister came in and asked if I had seen him and I told her he went into the chicken house and that’s where she went. We had so much fun. If he didn’t pick on me I thought he was mad. . I’m gonna miss him. Love you Don.

  4. Donald was like a son to us , My son David and Donald were inseparable, We all love him , our hearts are saddened for the loss, RIP Donald keep playing your music , your soul will shine forever, Gone but never forgotten.

  5. I want to express my deepest sympathy to Brandon and Chris on the loss of your dad. He loved you and his grandchildren more than you can imagine. During the past 13 years we were together, he talked many times of his hope’s and dreams for your future. Know that he will continue to watch over you from heaven. Your dad was a very special man. He will be loved and greatly missed for eternity.

Remember all the good memories of being little and being in church together and even visiting at you all’s house on Mapleton st. Prayers for peace and comfort for you all. Love you all friends. I was at Don and Sherrie’s apartment, Don was getting ready to feed the baby (Brandon their oldest) Don started to put the bottle in his mouth and Brandon started belly laughing, so he tried it again, just looked at Brandon to give him the bottle, again Brandon started belly laughing, Don loved it, I don’t know who laughed more that day, Brandon or Don

    I am very sorry to hear about the passing of your father. I know when we had last been able golf you talked about his health issues, I know from just your conversation you shared then that he was a very caring and loving father and grandfather and I imagine that your kind heart and caring were passed down to you from him.
