James Albert Green

James Albert Green, Sr., 82, of Columbus, passed away on August 19, 2021 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Albert was born on January 12, 1939 in Columbus to Elda Green and Mary Bryant Green. He married Velma L. Martin.
Albert retired from the Bartholomew County School Corporation. He volunteered for the East Columbus Fire Department and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department as a reserve Deputy. He loved to hunt and fish.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rev. Andy “Jay” Edwards officiating. Calling will be from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the James Albert Green, Sr. Memorial Fund.
Survivors include his sons, Michael D. (Bev) Green of Columbus, IN, James A. (Kim) Green Jr. of Nineveh, IN, Robert E. Green of Columbus, IN and Malcom (Margaret) Swim of Columbus, IN; daughters, Lisa K. Green (Lanny Lovins) of Seymour, IN and Kathy A. (Mike) Burton of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Bryan (Crystal) Green, Nicolas Ryan Green, Tyler James (Laci) Green, Rev. Jay and Tiffany Edwards, Michael and Rachel Edwards, Jimmy and Jean Brooks, Shandi Alisha Green, Isaac Green, Josiah Green, Darla and Brian Peek, Malcom and Theresa Swim, Kelly and Jim Lunsford, Brian Warren, Joe Warren, Lacey Cregg and Jeremy Dehaven; 29 great grandchildren, 18 great great grandchildren and a special friend Lois Brooks.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Velma L. Martin; a daughter, Gail L. Edwards; brothers, Arvil Lee Green and Carl Dewey Green.

We were so sorry to hear of the passing of your family member-James Green. Since we have had the pleasure of knowing so many of you we wanted to say we are thinking of you and send our thoughts and prayers to you today. I know that Kristi and Misti were always so special to him as I can still see him picking them up when they were young to go spend time with him and his wife at their house. (I just had that come to mind so I thought I would mention. ) You all have become like family and I wanted to thank you for being so kind

I miss you so much daddy. I just can’t believe you are gone. I cared for you for so many years. I am so lost now and I don’t know where my life’s goes from here. I miss your phone calls and how you told me daily that you loved me so much. You always said call me when u get home so I will know you made it home safe. I am so dying inside and no one knows it but me. I will forever cherish all the great times we shared. Thanks for being my Dad and my best friend. Most of all thanks for loving me unconditionally. No one will ever love me like you did. You watched me take my first breath and I sadly watched you take your last breath.
