Julius Franklin Bayles
July 30, 1929 ~ September 5, 2021
Julius Franklin Bayles, 92, of Columbus, passed away September 5, 2021.
Julius was born July 30, 1929 in Downsville, Louisiana, the son of Isaiah and Maybell Pardue Bayles. He married Theresa M. Smith on February 21, 1954.
Julius was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a U.S. Army Veteran. Being a country boy, he loved fishing; working with his hands, and loved playing baseball. When younger, Julius had an opportunity to play professional baseball, but was drafted due to the Korean Conflict instead. After he was discharged from the military, he founded Bayles Upholstery in 1961 which led to the opportunity to work with his son Frank. Most of all, Julius loved being able to do things for others; he strongly believed that being in service to God, family, and others was a true source of happiness.
Julius is survived by his children Frank J. (Sandy) Bayles, Beth A. (Brian) Richardson, and Stephany J. (Brian) Dahl of Columbus; 8 grandchildren; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Theresa on May 11, 2016; a brother William C. Bayles; as well as sisters Laurine Kelly, Lillian Acree, and Vivian Bayles.
The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday September 9, 2021 at the Jewell - Rittman Family Funeral Home with Bishop Tracy Lykins officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2021 and one hour prior to the service Thursday. Burial will be at New Harmony Cemetery in Bartholomew County.
Memorials may be made to Just Friends Adult Daycare or to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Don’t have many memories with him but few times we meet was amazing time he was a great family orientated man who would help anyone in need.gonna miss him
There are sporadic memories through my life as a child of Uncle Julius from his southern drawl to his teasing…I most remember his love for our grandma and family in general. I was not lucky enough to be one that lived with him as siblings John and Sandy did but he extended that love to us all. When I first joined the National Guard my duty station was in Columbus and I spent a couple weekends at their place for dinner and over night. I know that my brother John loved him so much and we all had the utmost respect for him. The light of Christ always shone bright and he has now gone to be with God and gotten his just reward and joined with Aunt Theresa and his loved ones that have gone on before. We love you and mourn your loss but rejoice that you will be there waiting for us to join him!
