Betty Sue Fields
February 15, 1941 ~ October 7, 2021
After a short battle with cancer (Lymphoma), Betty “Sue” Fields passed away at 7:17 p.m. October 7, 2021 Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She was born on February 15, 1941 in Albany, Kentucky, the daughter of Finley and Pauline (Melton) Willen. She later worked in the manufacturing industry, specifically for Cosco/Dorel of Columbus.
She met the love of her life and married in 1959. Sue and Kenneth have been married 62 years, celebrating their love and devotion every July 9th. As husband and wife, they enjoyed camping, traveling and watching NASCAR, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Sue’s family always told her she should be a contestant on Wheel of Fortune, always getting the answers correct. Sue was her family’s biggest cheerleader. She never missed a race, basketball game, softball game, cheer competition or any school event in which her children and grandchildren participated.
Sue always insisted on having family gatherings at her home so she could cook for the whole family. She knew Butterscotch pie was a favorite and made sure to bake it for every occasion. She always kept her fridge stocked with Root Beer, Sunny D and kept cookies in the cookie jar for the great-grandchildren.
So many loved ones will continue to share memories of Sue. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and all-around kind person. She attended Calvary Church of the Nazarene and was someone you could always count on to be there for you if you needed a shoulder, a ride or a hot meal. She always put others before herself.
Visitation for Sue will be Sunday afternoon from 2 to 6 p.m., October 10 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home in Columbus. The funeral will be at 10 a.m., Monday, October 11 at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Blair officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus.
Survivors include her loving husband, Kenneth and children, Mike (Jena) Fields of Columbus and Michele (Brett) Martin of North Vernon. Also surviving are sister, Colene (Doyle) Rich and Wilma Dean Burdine. She has four grandchildren, Misty (David) Rodriguez, Amber (Brandon) Smith, Joel (Bethany) Huckaby and Paige Huckaby. She has nine great-grandchildren, Mikael Brooks, Matthew Brooks, Emalie Smith, Dylan Brooks, Erika Smith, Thaddeus Huckaby, Amiah Thompson, Coleson Gott and Madelyn Huckaby.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, James, Bud and Charles Willen and sisters, Mary Ferril, Juanita Malone and Imogene Alexander.

I met Sue and her sisters at Cosco years ago, then became reunited with Sue at Calvary Nazarene a few years back. She always sat in front of me, which I looked forward to. I will have a hard time not seeing her beautiful smile and grace once my health permits me to return. We lost an angel which I will forever miss. Prayers for all of her family.
Marilyn, this is Sue’s daughter.
She is smiling with the Angels now! Remember when you are able to get back to church, she will be sitting right beside you listening to the Lord’s words.
Praying you are able to return soon!
