October 7, 1938 ~ November 27, 2021

Anna Marie (Mills) Garcia, 83, went to be with Jesus on November 27, 2021. Anna was born October 7, 1938 on a little farm in Grantsburg, Indiana. She was one of seven children born to Everett and Dimple Mills. She attended God’s Bible School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Anna met and married Joel Garcia of New Gulf, Texas on August 30, 1958 and together had two daughters. Anna, alongside her husband, opened Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant in Columbus in 1970 where they were blessed to work side by side for 50 years. Anna was a member of Bethel Wesleyan Church where she and her husband attended and served faithfully. In addition to loving Jesus with all of her heart, she also loved her family well. Anna was kind and tenderhearted, trustworthy, generous and completely devoted. She was compassionate and merciful to everyone around her, hardworking in all she did. Anna was wise and unwavering, walking through life with grace and dignity, always speaking truth. Her legacy “is worth more than rubies. Her husband had full confidence in her and lacked nothing in value, she brought him good not harm, all the days of her life. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all rise and call her blessed.” (Proverbs 31) Anna is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joel Garcia and daughters, Valerie (Earl) Drake and Christina “Varsi” (Jim) Weeter. She also had seven grandchildren: Leah (Cole) Kercheval, Caleb (Elizabeth) Drake, Lydia (Brandon) Kercheval, Sophia Weeter, Jack Weeter, Samuel Weeter and Lila Weeter. Anna had 10 great-grandchildren: Evalyn, Amelia, Henry, Georgia, Luisa, Hazel, Daisy, Oliver, Everett and Adaline. She is preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Dimple Mills and six siblings: Erma Scott, Norma Woolems, Samuel Mills, Paul Mills, Hilda Tilley and David Mills. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 6 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. at Bethel Wesleyan Church on Tuesday, December 7, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Rev. Gordon Tilley, Rev. Wes Jones and Rev. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I just remember Tia Anna always telling me eat girl eat, put some meat on them bones, and she would make me a plate whether at grandpa/grandma’s house or at their restaurant. She was always in grandpa/grandma’s kitchen cooking when visiting in Texas. You will be deeply missed. The Garcia family is in our thoughts and prayers. With much love Denise & Ed Rzasa

  2. My deepest condolences to Mr. Garcia and family. Mrs. Garcia was such a beautiful soul. My Momma is probably asking her for some tortilla soup about now. His blessing upon you all.

  3. Back in the 1980’s during a visit to San Antonio, I thought my Tia would enjoy Garden Ridge Pottery so I took her. We spent many hours walking up and down the 125,000 square foot store and she absolutely loved every inch of it. Following that visit, her sister Hilda came with them to SA and Tia asked me to take them both to Garden Ridge. It was a pleasure to see them enjoy the experience together. It was also during this visit that we went to Mi Tierra restaurant where I gave Hilda a run-down of some of the menu items. When I described ‘menudo’ to Hilda, my Aunt gave her a great description of what it was so I had to order a bowl so they could experience the traditional Mexican tripe soup.
I was able to get to know Tia much more while working at the restaurant in Cincinnati. When I was drying the silverware, she would see me, put a huge smile on her face and say, “Whatcha doing there, wiping the “sliver ware”? She was inquisitive, observant, kind, humble, funny and had a quite, yet confident presence about her. What I will remember and will miss the most are her hugs. She gave THE best hugs! They were always tight and she held them longer than 2 seconds. She did everything with a sense of purpose and joy in her heart. My Tio Joel, Valerie and Varsi had a lifetime of Tia’s love and memories that I am sure they will miss her deeply. I pray they find comfort in knowing that Tia Anna had a great and positive impact on my life and I have been richly blessed beyond measure.

  4. My wife Loris has shared many fond memories of Anna & Joel from their days at the Seymour location of Garcias many years ago. Our deepest, deepest sympathies.
