Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Linda was the 3rd of Mother and Daddy’s five girls, the “middle child” born just after me, She was so shy and soft-spoken and slow to anger. All of that carried over into adulthood, including the “slow to anger” part…unless you messed with her family, especially her children, grand children or great grandchildren. Then it was SADIE, SHUT THE DOOR!! Momma Hen came out in full force. How she loved children…any children…all children!

She was the kindest, sweetest, most-loving person I think I’ve ever known. She would give you her last penny. She was more like our Mom than any of us girls.

There are an abundance of memories I could share, but I’ve picked this one. In the early ‘60’s, we lived on Cram Creek in Letcher Co., KY in a house that had no running water. Mom used a wood cook stove to keep that end of the house warm, but we had an electric range to cook on. Every school night we would warm water in the aluminum teapot to wash up for the next day. One time, we were all awakened in the middle of the night and marched to the kitchen. There we stood in a line from oldest to youngest , 5 stair steps of little girls’ heads, watching Daddy pointing at the top of the stove where a teapot spout and lid sat on top on a heap of aluminum, now cold and anchored solidly among the burner coils. Someone had put water on to heat and apparently forgotten about it, allowing the pot to boil dry then melt. Daddy asked each of us, one at at time, if we were the one. Five questions were asked and five heads shook a back and forth no. No one would own up to it, so Dad spanked each of us four older girls, determined to punish the guilty party. (I guess he figured the other 3 had done SOMETHING at SOME TIME, deserving of a spanking they hadn’t gotten.) Mom wouldn’t let him spank Rita Rhea, citing the fact that she was too young and short to reach the knobs. You can imagine the laugh we had (and laugh we did!) when, one night in the 1980s, sitting in her house at Elizabethtown, Linda FINALLY owned up to being the guilty party. I never would have guessed she was the culprit!! 🤣😂

  2. I will say I never met the lady but sometimes you feel like you know them. My son Jerry has talked about how nice and kind she was to his family and especially his daughter My granddaughter. Linda Gail Grammer Rest in Peace with our God and Savior Jesus Christ

  3. My prayers are with you all. Linda will differently be missed. I feel that her & mom will be doing some catching up. Rest in peace. Novella
