Avalon M. Murray

Avalon Marie (Stevens) Murray, 102, went to be with her Jesus on Oct. 3, 2022.
Avalon was one of 4 children, born May 29, 1920 to Floyd and Emma Stevens in Switzerland County, Indiana. On June 3, 1949 she married Billy Joe Murray in Chickasha, Oklahoma. That same year she started her teaching career, and taught in Switzerland County for many years. In 1969, they moved to Columbus and she continued to teach until 1982. Music was a big part of her family’s life. She, along with her siblings, had a quartet and sang Christian hymns. For many years she played organ or piano at Parkside Baptist Church, and entertained the residents at the Silver Oaks nursing home weekly until she was 96. One of her favorite pastimes was reading her Bible, and was active in her church.
Survivors include a daughter Deborah (Ralph) Deppe, and son Guy Phillip Murray. One Grandson, Dustin (Loren) Murray, one granddaughter, Ashley Walsh, and 4 great-grand children, along with several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at the Jewell - Rittman Family Funeral Home (3855 25th Street, Columbus) with Rev. Bob Langdon officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2022 and one hour prior to the funeral service Wednesday. Burial will be at Vevay Cemetery in Vevay, Indiana. In memory of Mrs. Murray memorial contributions may be made to Love Chapel or your favorite organization.

A yellow candle for the ray of sunshine that she always was. She was the very BEST friend to my very best friend and grandma Dorothy. What a wonderful lady that Avalon, always so kind, caring and fun! Please tell grandma when you see her that I love her and think of her daily ❤️

Aunt Diddy was one of the sweetest women I have ever known. She will be missed and so happy that she is just beginning the best part of her life in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. See you there Aunt Diddy!!
