Sandra M. Freeman

February 20, 1943 ~ October 25, 2022

Sandra Mary McNiff Freeman, 78, of Columbus, passed away on October 25, 2022, at Four Seasons Retirement Center. She was born in Joliet, Illinois to the late Robert and Lillian McNiff on November 18, 1943. She was the beloved bride to William Freeman from February 20, 1963 until his time of passing in April of 2006. Sandra had the most amazing sense of humor. It was always dark and dry, and she never lost her wit right up until the very end. Though she will be missed by so many, she greatly looked forward to seeing everyone she had loved and lost in Heaven. She was a very knowledgeable, determined, feisty, brilliant, and hard-working person. She knew a great deal about medicine, and would have made a fantastic doctor, had she not grown up in an era where women didn’t attend college. She was also a lover of music (she’s probably already talked with Chris Cornell and Kurt Cobain), reading mysteries, and traveling to far away places. Sandra was an amazing advocate for charity, and devoted her life to serving those in need. Though the last couple of years had been difficult, her faith remained strong. She rarely complained and if she did it was done with humor and grace. Her family would like to give special thanks to all of those at Our Hospice that cared for her, and her neighbor and dear friend, Kitty King, for so much help, care, and love. Sandra is survived by her daughter, Julie (Kirk) Beckstein; grandchildren, Thomas, Henry, Rory, Samuel, Savannah, Joshua, and Isaac. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert, and Lillian McNiff; spouse, William Freeman; her sister, Sally Palmer; her dog Mac, and cat Tubby. In keeping with Sandra’s wishes, cremation has been chosen. Donations in Sandra’s honor may be directed through the funeral home to Our Hospice or the Litter Box Kitty Rescue of Taylorsville. • She was a great person ,beautiful smile and soul rest easy no more suffering ❤️ 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼With family

  1. Her obituary fits her to a ‘T’. She was a very dear friend and I will miss her. I loved visiting with her as she had so many diverse interests. She was not a complainer, and accepted the circumstances of her health. Her last 8 months have been a learning experience for me, teaching me to accept life as it is. She had friends all over the world who stayed in contact with her. She had a large capacity for love and giving. My dear friend, I’ll miss you.

  2. I was never lucky enough to meet this incredible lady, but her obituary caught my eye because it mentioned Chris Cornell. From one music lover to another, I hope you rest well. Give Chris a hug for me?

  3. I had the honor and joy of knowing Sandra because I have been her hairdresser for the past few years. She was a beautiful lady with such a beautiful spirit. I will always remember the time she told me she had been diagnosed with cancer but that because of her C.O.P.D. she was not going to pursue treatment. She said she was ready to go see Jesus. I admired her for that . I am a Christ follower and know I will see her again in the presence of the Savior.
Love and prayers to her family and friends I ends.

    • Sandy and I shared many cups of coffee during the years she, Bill and Julie lived across the street from us on Glenwood Avenue. No matter the situation Sandy always found something witty to say! She was the ray of sunshine that could always make one smile. Rest In Peace dear friend ‘til we meet again.

  4. I met Sandy in 1967 when her husband Bill and I started working at Caterpillar within a week of each other. We were friends instantly and have always been in touch since. She was the sister i never had, my best friend and confidant and always a light on the darkest of days.
I will never forget all the wonderful times we all had together and so much fun’
I will see you in my dreams and will talk to you in my prayers.
    I love you, Claude
