James "Jimmy" Owens

James Orville Owens Jr., 71, of Columbus, died at 11:15 a.m., on December 28, 2022, at his home. Jimmy was born September 4, 1951, in Seymour, the son of James Owens Sr. and Serilda Anne Bedel Gay. He married Linde Ann Caraker-Owens, and she survives. Jimmy enjoyed being an independent contractor in the field of transportation. He was a talented mechanic and was always working on cars. Jimmy was very proud to be a member of AA and belonged to the Faithful Friends of Bill W. for over 31 years. Jimmy will be remembered for being an explorer and very adventurous, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. The funeral will be at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2023, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Kennedy officiating. Calling will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the funeral home to help with final expenses. Survivors include his mother; his wife; sons, James (Lindsey) Owens III of Franklin, Travis (Brooke) Owens of Indianapolis, and Robert (Gretchen) Caraker of York. PA.; daughters, Angela (John) Grant of Illinois, and Valerie Caraker of Cobden, Illinois; brothers, Charlie Owens of Columbus, Patrick Owens of Norman, and Phil (Michelle) Owens; sister, Tracey Ayers of Brownstown; grandchildren, Landon (Taleigha) Owens of Scottsburg, Bella Owens of Indianapolis, Khovvr Owens of Scottsburg and many, many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
