William T. Burton

William T. Burton, 72, of Columbus, passed away January 11, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 12, 1950 in Columbus, the son of Hass and Goldie Heitz Burton. He married Christine E. Garner on March 13, 1971. William enjoyed many activities, especially those that let him be out in nature. They ranged from gardening, birdwatching, hunting, fishing, and attending auctions. He also loved to cook. Most of all, William loved spending time with and taking care of his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
William is survived by his wife Christine; his children William T. Burton II of Columbus and Donna E. (Jason) Whitis of Edinburgh; grandchildren Megan (Nathan) Barnett, Nicholas Franklin, Devon Burton, Marissa Whitis, Dylan Burton, Makayla (Dakota) Burton, and Brayden Whitis; 9 great-grandchildren; as well as sisters Shasta (Larry) Smiley of Flat Rock, Kathy (Kevin) Stubblefield of Edinburgh, Tammy (Gary) Evans of Speedwell, Tennessee, and Jane Haddock of Franklin, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; as well as two brothers Jim and Tom Burton.
The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Ricky Burton officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Tuesday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
