Thomas Darrell Dean

Thomas Darrell Dean, 89, of Columbus, passed away Thursday January 12, 2023 at IU Health-Methodist Hospital. He was born January 5, 1934 in Indianapolis, the son of James H. and Mildred (Lowe) Dean.
He served his country in the U.S. Marines. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a longtime active member of the Mt. Healthy Community Church. He married Beverly Sweet December 31, 1954 and she survives.
Services will be held on Monday January 16, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Healthy Community Church with Kevin Johnson officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in the St. Paul Cemetery with military honors provided by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at Noon. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Cemetery or the Mt. Healthy Community Church.
He leaves behind his wife Beverly; sons, Michael (Susie) Dean and Steven (Robin) Dean; grandchildren, Amber Riley, Nikia Dean, Ashley (Mike) Jennings, Angie (Carl) Summerlot and Lillian Moon; great grandchildren, Ryana Hardin, Lillianna Hobbs, Layla Hobbs, Evan Jennings, Jacob Jennings, Kaitlyn Garner, Alora Summerlot and Ivy Summerlot; great-great grandchildren, Beckham Grider, Nash West and Kolton Roberts. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson Earl Dean and a great grandson, Axel Moon.

Tom is my father in law, I met him first by him being my mailman at Beech Grove. We would give him a big glass of ice tea in the summer time when he was on his route.
He was quite the craftsman with wood, that he learned from grandpa Sweet. He overcame quite a few challenges in his life and I admire him for that. I believe he realized how blessed he was to have his family by his side in his last few years. His prayer was answered that he would have to go to an nursing home. He said, God was calling him home.
