Emily Romero

Emily Romero, 90, of Columbus passed peacefully in her home on February 7, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. Emily was born August 6, 1932, in Palma, New Mexico to Andres and Rufina Chavez. She later married Paul Romero in 1963. Emily enjoyed being a homemaker for many years of her life then later went to work for Subway and Estep & Company, Inc. where she became a beloved employee by many. She had a love for music and taught herself how to play the accordion and piano. She also loved to dance in the arms of her husband. They spent many years on many different dance floors between New Mexico and Indiana. Emily also had a love for nature. This included camping with her family and enjoying the beautiful scenery and animals. Emily is survived by her husband, Paul Romero; Children, Stella (George) Estep, Louise (Kevin) Holt, Victoria (Craig) Barkhimer, Andrea (Charlie) Cross, and Martina (Joe) Smith; Sisters, Carmen, Anne, and Angie; Brothers, Paul, and Manuel Chavez. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Georgia; grandson Jake Holt; brothers Celestino and Lizardo and sister Cecilia. Friends and family may call for visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 13th at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home. A eulogy will take place at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held, on February 14th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Edinburgh, IN with a calling from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The celebration of life service will commence at 10:00 a.m. followed by a graveside burial at Garland Brook Cemetery.
