Neil Brady "Poppy" Estes

Neil Brady “Poppy” Estes, 73, passed away on May 12, 2023, at Columbus Regional Hospital surrounded by his family who loved him very much.
Neil was born April 3, 1950, in Stanford, KY to Cyrus Marvin “Bud” Estes and Lemma Maedell (Jones) Estes. He grew up with his siblings Garry, Patty, and Sherry. The family lived briefly in Ohio before settling in Columbus, Indiana, where Neil graduated from Columbus High School in 1968. During high school, he met and married the love of his life, Debby Hoy on December 29, 1968.
Neil was employed as a toolmaker at Cummins for 31 years, from 1968 to 1999, during which time he spent 4 years in the US Army, stationed at Hakata Air Force Base in Japan. He was a member of the American Legion and the Eagles Lodge.
Quick wit and a mischievous sense of humor made Neil a friend to many and loved by all. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Neil is survived by his wife of 54 years Debby (Hoy) Estes- Columbus, Indiana; his children, Tammie (Estes) Eppley Columbus, Indiana; Shannon (Chris) Clulow Bloomington, Indiana; his grandchildren, Mackenzie Eppley (Ben Patton), Keaton Clulow, Ryan Clulow; his mother, Maedell Estes; siblings Patty (Mike) Shaw and Sherry (Gene) Thorne, and his sweet beagle Jagger.
Neil is preceded in death by his brother Garry (Mary Lou) Estes, and his father, Cyrus Marvin “Bud” Estes.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023, from 1-4 pm at the Eagles 930 Washington Street Columbus IN with military honors to begin at 1:15 pm. All who wish to attend are welcome to celebrate his life. If no one is really gone until there is no one left to remember them; Neil will go on for many years to come.
A Memorial Golf event will be held in August (details to come), and memorial donations can be made to Timbergate Junior Golf Program; 151 St. Andrews Ave.; Edinburgh, IN 46124; (kyle@timbergategolf.com) or through the funeral home.
