Bernice G. Coomer, 90, of Columbus, passed away June 14, 2023, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Bernice was born December 29, 1932, in Edmonton, Kentucky, the daughter of Hollin and Ann Mildred Jessie Gilpin. She married Lonzie Noel Coomer on October 11, 1952. Bernice was a Charter Member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church. She loved going to church as well as visiting with fellow members. Bernice enjoyed crocheting and loved to make throw blankets for all of her family members. Most of all, Bernice loved her family. They were the most important thing in her life. She will be deeply missed. Bernice is survived by her children Linda Bragg of Hope, Ronnie Coomer of Columbus, and Sheila (John) Mitchell of Columbus; grandchildren Steve Bragg, Kim (Scott) Ruble, Derek (Natasha) Bragg, and Tim (Kayla) Mitchell; great-grandchildren Skyler, Becca, Caydin, Lydia, Pattsie, Johnathon, and Jacob; great-great-grandchildren Brailee and Brielynn; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lonzie on May 29, 1991; and brothers Kenny, her twin brother Ernie, and Chuck Gilpin. The funeral will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Harper officiating. Visitation will be Friday, June 16, 2023, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Saturday. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.   2. I remember Bernice when she would come into Hills Dept Store when it was still around,she is such a great lady,I worked with her daughter Linda in layaway.Alot of people still miss that place.Sorry for your loss,she will be missed.

    Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.
    Bernice and I were great friends for many years. Lots of loving memories with her, Lonzie and the family. Had many good meals at her home and loved her famous fried pies.
    She was a funny, loving caring person. Lonzie and Bernie took me under their wings and loved me like I was one of their own children.
    We spoke on the phone after her most resent hospital stay. She told me how the kids was so good to her and she loved them very much.
    Bernice was a women with Gods own heart. She was always glad to hear from me as I was her. She was beautiful inside and out. I was so broken to hear the news of her passing. I will miss our phone calls.☹️ Most of all I will miss you!
