Ronnie Lee Gater, 76, of Columbus, died at Columbus Regional Hospital on June 29, 2023. He was born on March 23, 1947, to Rollin E. Gater, and Kathleen McCleery Gater in Seymour, and was the spouse of Beth Richart Gater on August 23, 1969. Ronnie retired from Cummins Engine Co. in 2009 after 43 years of working for the company and was in the Air Force Reserves during his younger years. He was a long-time member of the American Legion and an avid golfer. Above all, Ronnie loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Lauren, who was the light of his life. He is survived by his wife, Beth Gater; sons, Jason (Kimberly) Gater, and Jeremy Gater; brother, Duane Gater; sister, Sheila (David) Swift; and granddaughter, Lauren Gater. Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents, Rollin and Kathleen Gater, and brothers, Robert, and Leon Gater. The funeral service will be at 1 pm on Monday, July 3, 2023, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Lay officiating the service. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11 am to 1 pm. He will be buried at Donaldson Cemetery.   2. My love to Beth and the boys. Ronnie’s death leaves a big hole in the hearts of the entire Gater/McCleery families. He was so kind and thoughtful to the widows in the family. And, so kind to take Ninna and me to and back from the airport and he and Beth made the trips fun. Ronnie and Beth–the closest to perfect couple you’ll ever find. You’re in our hearts always.
