Luther Sweet

Luther Sweet, 82, of North Vernon, died at 12:26 p.m., October 10, 2023, at Majestic Care of No. Vernon, IN. Luther was born in Somerset, Kentucky on November 28, 1940, the son of James Franklin and Rose Ann Hodge Sweet. He married Darlene Kay Hendershot on June 26, 1976. She passed away on June 2, 2023. Luther worked for Reliance for 31 years and he was a proud veteran of the National Guard. He attended Wilson Chapel Church for over 10 years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting mushrooms, telling jokes, along with bicycles and mowing repairs. A loving father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be at 10:30 Monday; October 16, 2023, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Calling will be from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be at held Garland Brook Cemetery with military honors provided by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the funeral home to help with final expenses. Survivors include daughters, Yvonne Annette (Shelly Miller) White, of Scipio; Marjorie Ann (Tony) Ford, of Cumberland, Kentucky; son, Billy (Amy) White of No. Vernon, IN; sister, Betty (Ira) Holt, Seymour; grandchildren, Terra Lynn (Jason Ingram) Sweet, Tiffany Rosanne (Rickey Sacks) Burton, Shelby Miller, Josh, and Seth Ford; great-grandchildren, Elijah Anderson, Xavior Wood, Jannessa Cardinal, Devin Cardinal and Ryker Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rose Sweet; and his wife, Darlene Sweet.
