Hazel Marie Stockelman, 86, of Columbus, IN, died December 12, 2023, at Our Hospice Inpatient Facility in Columbus, IN, born July 01, 1937. Hazel Marie (Kuehn) Stockelman, 86, was called home to Heaven late on December 12, 2023. Prior to a short stay at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, she was a resident at Four Seasons Retirement Home, where she loved receiving visitors and reading. Hazel was born to Leonard and Martha Kuehn on July 1, 1937, and grew up in Wegan. She attended Brownstown High School and Concordia University, where she graduated with an associate degree in teaching. She taught grade school from 1958-1963 and continued to be a substitute teacher until she retired. Hazel also did clerical work for Ayr-Way, Target, and L&N Medical. She married William Eugene Stockelman on June 12, 1960. Together, they raised their family in Columbus, Indiana where she enjoyed gardening, baking, square dancing, and hosting parties for her friends and family. Her passion, however, can be found in the hearts of her grandchildren, whom she adored. Throughout her years, Hazel actively participated in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church’s Bible Study, Mary Martha, and Red Hat Club. Since 1965, she also often enjoyed get-togethers with the teachers she worked with. Hazel is survived by her sons, Daniel Stockelman of Nevada, Texas and Timothy (Rebecca) Stockelman of Columbus, daughter-in-law, Sandra Stockelman of North Vernon, grandchildren Jacob and Molly Stockelman, of North Vernon, and sister Nancy Branscom, of Warner Robins, Georgia, brother-in-law Larry Littmann of Peach Tree City, Georgia, and sisters-in-law Shirley Gulley of Dallas, Texas and Connie Stockelman of Greenville, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 1. Hazel was my third grade teacher and that is how she met her husband, my brother Bill. I didn’t even know they were dating until later. I thought that was great. I have been very close to Hazel and thought of her like the sister I never had. I loved talking to her and would send her flowers when she was at the retirement homes to keep a smile on her face. My children Keith and Tiffany thought the world of her and Bill her husband and enjoyed visiting them at their small farm. The memories are plentiful and great. The stories I could tell. We will miss Hazel very much. Love and Hugs Shirley Gulley

  2. Our sympathies to all of you! I remember when aunt Hazel was going to school in Fort Wayne and spent weekends at our house. We loved having her read to us all sitting on the couch. We were introduced to the Bobsey Twins, the Boxcar Children, Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys and more. We begged her to read just one more chapter even if it was past bedtime. She taught us a love for books! She was a gem and I’m glad I was blessed to be her niece and godchild. ❤️ Joyce (Reisenbichler) Duitsman

  3. My sympathies to you all. My parents Howard and Donna Turner always valued their friendship with Bill and Hazel. I remember them through the square-dancing days and having us over and the kindness they always displayed. Hazel and Bill were two of the most genuine people I have ever met. Take comfort in knowing they are together again forever.

    Sympathies,

    Steve Moore

  4. These are wonderful photos and bring so many heartfelt memories. Thank you so much to the editor of this video.

  5. Tim and Dan, so sorry for your loss. She is now in a better place and glad to be with Bill and Mike. So many fond memories of the times spent with them in the trailer, the new house, the farm and the last house. The times we had on cruises and so many casino trips. She will always be remembered for being a gracious host and bead seller. Love Uncle Larry
