Bobby R. Knight

Bobby R. Knight, 67, of Hartsville, passed away at 12:29 p.m. January 10, 2024, at his home. Bobby was born July 27, 1956, the son of William Oakley and Verna Leonard Knight. He married Mary E. Harris on June 14, 1975. She survives. Bobby was a graduate of East High School. He worked as security for Camp Atterbury for years before retiring. He was a volunteer at the Hartsville Fire Department for 36 years, 3 years he spent serving there as Fire Chief. He enjoyed old cars, fishing, watching dirt racing, drag racing, and NASCAR. Bobby will be remembered as being the jokester, and for feeding all the neighborhood stray cats. Bobby was a loving family man to his wife and yorkie, Layla. The funeral will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2024, at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Baldwin officiating. Calling will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made directly to Bobby’s family. Survivors include his wife; son, Michael (Jessica) Knight, of Hope; daughters, Amy (Colin) Miller, of Columbus and Jenni (Jeremy) Velasquez, of Bay City, MI; brothers, Danny Knight, of Bedford, Oakley Jr. Knight, of Kentucky, and Howard Knight, of Columbus; grandchildren, Taylor (Jay Cortinas) Fields, Colton (Georgia Taylor) Atkins, Alyssa (Youcef Adjiri) Fields, Cameron Crider, Hailei Knight, Isabella Miller, Neisha Gatewood and Andrew McCarter. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ed and Ronnie Knight. Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
